1.8 by Tadasuke TanakaTC73
2010s Kinko-ryu Maker: Tadasuke Tanaka Length: 1.8 shaku / 545mm Pitch: D Price: $1,800 Hole diameter: 10.5mm Weight: 348g Tremendous value for a professional-level 1.8 from a reputable maker. Two hanko.
Lovely big, clear sound with a sweetness in the upper register. The wider bore allows both broad tonal color and technical range for contemporary music and depth of sound and breatheir tones for Honkyoku. Described as a "friendly" flute, easy to work with, clear voicing, and even intonation through the octaves. Subtle markings on the bamboo, red urushi, natural root end, and thicker stock give it an organic feel. Tadasuke Tanaka recently retired from being the resident, official shakuhachi maker to the Chukuyusha guild, under Iemoto Junsuke Kawase. He made shakuhachi for Kinko players of this lineage in Tokyo for at least 40 years. He has a good reputation amongst players. |
