2.8 (F#)

Mugai was an enigmatic and remarkable jinashi maker who studied under Watazumi.  While these tubes appear rustic, each one plays at a high level musically. Most are made from authentic aged susudake taken from the roofs of historical Japanese homes.

Shiro

TX3
Mid-20th Century
Kinko-ryu

Maker: Yamaguchi Shiro
Lengths: 1.9 jimori
1.8 jimori with ivory utaguchi
1.8 jiari
1.8 jimori

These superb tubes by Yamaguchi Shiro are among the finest examples of his work. He was a great maker and player, but he also stamped tubes made by his workshop. Thus his shakuhachi can range from utter junk to masterpieces. He also had poor quality control at times. Furthermore some of his unstamped ones are better than some the stamped ones!

These are great examples with hanko. TubeCollective® would consider trading one of the 1.8s if something very desirable arose.

Ozawa Seizan was a student of the 40th kansu of Myoan-ji, Yoshimura Soshin Fuan. He later become a Rinzai Zen monk, and acted like a 'house maker' for the Fuke Myoan (Taizan-ha) group.

His jinashi reflect a Zen approach to shakuhachi making, allowing each piece of bamboo to reflect its own spirit with an austere & direct tone.
